As VCPI’s Director of Programs, Sheila Gunderman is responsible for managing all aspects of the delivery of VCPI’s high-quality training programs, which includes a growing catalog of more than fifty course offerings on current law enforcement topics. Since joining VCPI in 2004, she has managed more than 1000 training events, impacting nearly 40,000 law enforcement professionals nationwide in more than 300,000 hours of training. Sheila recruits, selects and deploys a cadre of professional subject matter experts, instructors, and facilitators who represent VCPI in the national public-safety community. Alongside the VCPI staff and these talented experts, Sheila works closely with executives and training directors of law enforcement agencies to determine appropriate training programs and assistance plans to achieve their individual goals. She collaborates regularly with VCPI staff and consultants to develop program curriculum, both classroom-based and eLearning.

Sheila has played an instrumental role in helping build and grow VCPI from a Virginia-specific, federally funded grant program into a nationwide service provider dedicated to advancing public safety, active in all U.S. states. Prior to joining VCPI, Sheila worked as a High School Spanish Teacher and Dance Instructor in Tampa, Florida. She has been a certified Zumba® Fitness Instructor since 2007. Her background also includes experience working in Advertising and Public Relations firms both in Tampa and Charleston, South Carolina. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in Journalism & Mass Communications with specializations in Advertising/Public Relations and Spanish from the University of South Carolina.
