Robert Skowron joined VCPI in December 2017 as a Program Manager. He collaborates with the other members of the VCPI team on the development and delivery of national, state and local programs; assists in the curriculum development of national training initiatives; and provides instruction in a variety of VCPI courses.

Bob has almost 37 years of law enforcement experience, starting in the City of Richmond. He retired from the Chesterfield County Police Department and went on to serve as Deputy Chief for the City of Hopewell Police Department for 6 1/2 years. During his distinguished career, Bob has served in many different positions throughout his career and was successful in the accreditation and culture change within the Hopewell Police Department.  For his investigative work, he has received numerous commendations and was recognized as homicide investigator of the year by the Virginia Homicide Investigators Association.

Bob has a Master’s degree in criminal justice from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor’s degree from State University of New York, College of Technology. He is a graduate of the Executive Senior Management Course, by Police Executive Research Forum, the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Public Safety Institute and the Virginia Forensic Science Academy.  In addition he served as an adjunct professor at Virginia Commonwealth University for 6 years and is a certified instructor through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.

Bob currently serves as a board member with the Virginia Peer Support Association which was instrumental in having peer support legislation passed for public safety officers in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2017.
