2005 Instructor of the Year

Captain H. Wayne Duff of the Lynchburg Police Department was presented the Virginia Community Policing Institute 2005 Instructor of the Year Award, February 8, 2006 at the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. Captain Duff brings to the classroom a combination of diverse police experience, formal education, and platform skills. In 2005, Wayne instructed 10 courses for VCPI covering topics such as bias-based policing, advanced search and seizure and interview and interrogation, receiving an average, overall evaluation of 4.918 on a 5 point scale.

Captain Duff’s career with the Lynchburg Police Department began in 1993 as a graduate of the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. Since then, Wayne has served as a patrol officer, investigator assigned to the narcotics/vice unit, and as a lieutenant he was assigned to the field operations unit, tactical unit, and crimes against persons unit. Wayne then became acting captain of the criminal investigations unit, captain of the east patrol division, and currently serves as captain of the administrative division. During his wide range of assignments with the Lynchburg Police Department, Captain Duff successfully completed numerous professional development courses and earned a Master of Arts Degree in Sociology/Criminology from Longwood College.

Prior to receiving the VCPI 2005 Instructor of the Year Award, Captain Duff was formally recognized for his achievements by other organizations such as the Lynchburg Police Department, Southern Police Institute, and the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, to name a few.
